GET TO KNOW ME

Hello, I'm Sean and I’m grateful for the opportunity to join you on your journey to better mental health. It’s my hope the information on this website will help you in making what is often a difficult decision, whether or not to meet with a therapist.

I’ve developed skills that have helped me become an excellent listener, I’m able to ask direct questions and my use of appropriate humor makes for a comfortable and productive experience.

I have more than 16 years of experience working with children, adults, families, and couples. My career as a counselor has allowed me to perform many roles including child/adult therapist and group facilitator. While I enjoy working with many populations, my current focus is helping adults dealing with anxiety, depression, anger, stress, men's issues and overcoming a victimhood mindset.

When I'm not working with clients, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our daughter, playing with our Goldendoodle, listening to just about every type of music out there, watching documentaries, enjoying F1 and cheering on Notre Dame football (don’t judge). I believe having a balanced life between my family, personal interests, and career, enables me to be a pretty darn good therapist.

I look forward to working with you!

All the best,

Sean

ANXIETY

"Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith."

- Henry Ward Beecher

Excessive worry? Racing thoughts? Panic? Everyone experiences anxiety and worry from time-to-time. But does it feel like you experience it more days than not? You’re not alone. Most people encounter high levels of anxiety at points in their life and it often leaves one exhausted, spinning their wheels, and feeling like they’ll never accomplish anything. Now’s the time for you to punch anxiety in the face and let it know who’s boss: YOU. Anxiety management therapy will help you use breathing, mindfulness, and simple coping skills to take back control from anxiety and learn to manage it rather than it manage you.

DEPRESSION

"The only thing more exhausting than being depressed is pretending that you're not."

- Unknown

Do you often feel sad, hopeless and empty? Are you feeling fatigued and lacking energy? Do you struggle with feeling worthless? Are you no longer interested in activities and hobbies you once enjoyed? If you answered 'yes' to some of these questions you may be dealing with depression. Most of us experience depression at some point in our lives. But you don't have to "stay stuck" in it. Depression management therapy can often help you identify the sources of your depression and find real solutions, not just a medication, to helping you better manage depression when it hits.

ANGER

"Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."

- Buddha

She makes me so mad! He always pushes my buttons! They’re just doing that because they know it irritates me! Whether it’s the morning traffic that is making you late for work, or, conflict with the most important people in your life, anger can get the best of us. Everyone gets angry; it’s part of our DNA. Our anger becomes a problem when we fail to manage and express it in a manner that is healthy and productive. Stop making excuses for your anger. Stop blaming others for having control over you. Anger management therapy will help you better recognize your triggers, find ways to reduce your anger, and help you express it more assertively.

Stressed Woman

STRESS

"Remember that stress doesn't come from what's going on in your life. It comes from your thoughts about what's going on in your life."

- Andrew J. Bernstein

A little bit of stress can be beneficial. It keeps you sharp, focused, and can help you be successful in so many areas of your life. However, too much stress rarely helps. It creates both emotional and physical problems. It floods your body with excessive hormones that slowly eat away at you and unless you learn how to manage it more effectively, it only continues to create problems for you as you navigate life’s challenges. Stress management therapy can help you better identify healthy versus unhealthy stress and make it work for, not against, you. You’ll learn skills that are easy, require no special training, and be used as soon as your first visit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Home: FAQ

WHAT IS THERAPY? HOW CAN IT HELP?

Therapy is a process, backed by science, that helps you look at your experiences in life, understand why you are going through these events, explore your feelings, and take positive actions to assist you with getting back on life’s track. You will learn skills that are easy to implement and designed for you to be able to use on your own, without having to remain in therapy for years. The skills you learn will not simply be a bandage, they will create resilience and increase your confidence in knowing that you can handle whatever life throws at you. A small investment of time in therapy can pay big dividends.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY SESSIONS? HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?

Prior to your first session I will email you a link to a secure online portal that will contain the necessary paperwork for you to complete in order to get your services started. This paperwork includes a biopsychosocial questionnaire, my business policies and procedures, informed consent forms, and your confidentiality agreement.

At your first session, we will review your paperwork, ensure you understand your rights to and limits regarding confidentiality, and you’ll begin to go into more depth about what you would like to work on in therapy. We will also discuss expectations and set some goals. Subsequent sessions will allow you to further explore your needs by hearing your story, clarifying your therapy objectives, and doing the work to help you reach your goals.

Sessions at the onset are typically scheduled on a weekly basis. Meeting weekly allows us to build trust, create momentum, and get on the fast track to achieving your treatment goals. At some point, clients will move to bi-weekly sessions as they see progress being made. Once you’ve achieved your goals, we can reassess to see if there are new goals to work on or in some cases clients will move to a monthly session as maintenance to ensure their progress is solid.

DO YOU OFFER VIDEO THERAPY?

Yes! Through audio and video over the internet, you can connect with me from your desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile device (iOS or Android) - it's your choice!

SimplePractice's Telehealth allows us to connect anywhere with secure and convenient appointments that save you time and hassle. There's no need to deal with traffic, parking or the high price of gas when you can schedule and attend your appointments directly from a laptop or mobile device.

SimplePractice, LLC is my practice management software for scheduling, case management, Telehealth, and therapy notes. SimplePractice, LLC, uses a HIPAA compliant software so your information will be securely kept. Just like a face-to-face appointment, your Telehealth visit will be private and confidential.

IMPORTANT: For you to utilize virtual therapy, state licensing laws require you to be in the state of Arizona at the time of the video session.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS INVESTMENT IN MY WELL-BEING COST? DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Sessions are a 45-53 minute "clinical hour."

I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Aetna, Optum, UHC, UMR, Cigna or cash pay. Please contact your insurance carrier for the most current provider information.

Cash pay sessions are:

  • $125.00 for a 45-50 minute therapy session.

  • $150.00 for a 45-50 minute initial intake session.

  • $180.00 for a 75-minute therapy session.

Cash pay allows you to maintain confidentiality with your services and not have a mental health diagnosis in your medical record. I can also work with you as an Out-of-Network (OON) provider, if you would like to use your insurance for potential reimbursement, by providing you with a "Super Bill" that can be submitted to your insurance company. Please note that submitting a claim to your insurance provider requires that I assign you a mental health diagnosis which becomes a part of your medical record. Please contact your insurance provider to determine your Out-of-Network benefits.

You are responsible for verifying your insurance coverage.

Credit, Debit, American Express, Discover and HSA/Flexible Spending Cards are all acceptable forms of payment.

WHEN ARE YOU AVAILABLE FOR SESSIONS?

Office hours are by appointment only. Please contact me for my current hours of availability. I am unable to accommodate walk-ins.

To get started, schedule a complimentary, 15-minute phone consultation today to determine if I'm a good fit for you and your needs.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Life often throws us curve balls. You can cancel or reschedule your appointment with at least 24 business hours notice and not be charged a "late cancel" fee. However, if you cancel with less than 24 business hours notice or you do not show for your appointment, for any reason, you will be charged the no show/late cancel fee of $50.00.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one (1) business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
